About
Joshua Wiejaczka is a film and TV composer based out of New York specializing in scoring sci-fi, psychological thrillers, and nature and science documentaries. As a former PhD volcanologist, Josh's music uniquely merges cinematic storytelling with the awe of the physical world. His portfolio includes the original scores for the animated shorts Like Cornered Beasts and En Passant and the video game Spire Squire, which integrated field recordings of earth phenomena with lush orchestration and experimental sound design. Josh’s other scoring projects include advertisements for companies across the United States and Europe.
Music runs in his blood. As the great-grandson of a Welte-Mignon concert pianist, Josh began his journey on percussion and trumpet before diving into the late-90s punk and indie rock scenes. He formally trained in performance, composition, and sound design at Hunter College. He later earned his PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Oregon where he was awarded The Jack Kleinman Memorial Award for Volcano Research. This unique background gives Josh an "explosive" edge when scoring projects exploring the intersection between humanity, planetary science, and reverence for the natural world.
