About
Joshua Wiejaczka is an emerging film and media composer whose work explores the intersection between haunting and heartfelt. Known for his immersive compositions, Josh writes music that resonates deeply with story by layering lush orchestration, rhythmic nuance, and ambient detail into scores that feel both cinematic and intimate. Drawing from a multi-disciplinary approach rooted in live performance and experimental production, his compositions evoke a sense of nostalgia that lingers long after the final credits roll.
His growing body of work includes original scores for short films and animations such as Like Cornered Beasts, En Passant, video games like Spire Squire, as well as an expanding catalog of production music spanning genres from epic orchestral to melancholic minimalism. Whether building to sweeping climaxes or shaping quiet moments of desperation, Josh approaches each scene as a chance to illuminate story with nuance and emotional resonance.
As the great-grandson of a concert pianist who recorded piano rolls for the Welte-Mignon piano company, Josh comes from a lineage of musicians. At an early age he began playing percussion and trumpet which later evolved into performing in punk and indie rock bands in the late 90s and early 2000s. He then went on to earn a degree in music from Hunter College in New York City, where he deepened his expertise in performance, composition and sound design. Josh also holds a PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Oregon and previously worked as a volcanologist. This uncommon pairing gives him a unique perspective especially when scoring projects rooted in science, nature, and the awe of the natural world.
